I was first interested in photography with the entering of the Beginning Digital Photography class. I entered purely out of curiosity and it has now grown into a hobby for me. I've spent all year in photoshop learning the program and advancing my techniques. I own my own camera now, an Olympus E-410 Digital SLR, and it provides me with high-quality and advanced settings.

My best project over these 36 weeks is, in my opinion, my color project. It features several pictures of a Rubik's Revolution. I used the electronic toy rather than the actual puzzle because the Revolution has glossy, reflective stickers that stood out in the flash of the camera. After getting the perfect angle, I selected the cube, feathered it down and applied several filters to the background: desaturation, film grain, and a radial blur (the feathered selection dragged some of the color of the cube outward, creating a glow effect). And to print I increased the brightness to preserve the glow that could only be experienced on a computer screen.

The most meaningful picture to me is the photo called Piano and Music. It can be viewed on the cabinet along with a few other photos of mine. This photo really applies to my interests and to my life in general. I will be going into Music Education in college, so music will continue to be a part of me like nothing else can. This photo was hard to create for me, due only to my lack of experience with Photoshop at the time. I first got the perfect angle of the piano, after several tries. I copied the layer several times. On the top layer, I cut out the white keys and placed a picture of a piece of music over them. The second layer of the piano has only the background cut out. The bottom layer features only the background, which is blurred and desaturated. Between these two layers is another piece of music.

This year has been great for me, especially in the area of performance and art. With music, theatre, and photography, I've been able to express myself in ways words cannot. Photography will continue to be a part of my life as long as I own a camera. College is next, then life after. The beauty of the Upper Peninsula awaits...
